More like Howard’s beginning: the news is that India is backing the former Aussie PM for the post of ICC chair, to succeed Sharad Pawar.
So now we can begin speculating on just what the quid pro quo is, here. More bilateral series between India and Australia? Australia’s support to push through a proposal for a defined IPL window? What?

Is it not the situation that the BCCI (especially Pawar) is waiting for? I am sure there will be many conditions laid down for the backing, of which one has been already implemented (clearing the IPL from any match-fixing). The second-most important will be a yearly series between the two countries on similar lines as the Ashes.

I also remember getting blasted for suggesting, during the T20 WC, that Vinay Kumar was a domestic level bowler who wouldn’t last at the international level with his sub 120 pace and limited variety. Now it is Vinay’s turn to get blasted, seemingly. Lesson: Mickey Mouse bowlers are meant purely for domestic disneyland.
To be fair to Vinay he has had 1 bad over. I think some domestic batting lineups are way better than Zimbabwe batting so to suggest Vinay has been found out at Internatinal level is not quite accurate. Maybe the conditions are not suiting him. Its also not like Yadav & Dinda are going great guns. You may well be right about Vinay not being interantional class but dont think his 3 overs today prove than point. He has performed better against better batting lineups
Agree with you. He just does not look international class to me. I would definitely have preferred Mithun to him.

Prem, That has to be the most disappointing statement that I have read from you. Sub 120 and limited variety? Have you been watching him bowl? I certainly dont agree with the limited variety classification. Believe me, he has got more variety than what Zaheer and the frontline seamers have demonstrated in the last 10 years. And it took you what, all of 1 ODI match to judge him?
Er no — it took watching him in domestic cricket and the IPL to judge him. Before he went to Zimbabwe — in fact during the IPL — is when I made the statement that he wouldn’t last long at the highest level.

Well, I beg to differ. I feel he has got what it takes to be a good bowler for India. And by that I mean variety. Speed may be a drawback, yes, but he can make up for that with skill. And I feel T20s might not be the best platform to judge him.

No issues — differing is good. I have my opinion, you have yours. And ultimately, time will tell. I’d point out, though, that T20 is not the platform *I* judged him by — it is the platform where he is supposed to have done enough for the selectors to pick him. Anyways… we’ll see
